My approach...

... includes hypnosis & visualisation, mindfulness & meditation, and relaxation & breath work - all underpinned by sound cognitive behavioural theory. In practice this means exploring your thoughts about a situation, any feelings it brings up, or considering which behaviours might be more or less helpful. Together we'll identify new, effective strategies for dealing with your situation, before using hypnotherapy to rehearse and embed these changes at a deeper level. Research has shown that, when combined with CBT, hypnotherapy is a most effective way of achieving lasting change. . 

I work in a tailored, collaborative and goal-focused way…


Tailored because, despite my own experiences of pain, stress and sleeplessness, we’re all individuals, and no two journeys are alike. I’ll listen carefully to your experiences and together we’ll make a suitable, bespoke action plan. 


Collaborative because effective therapy is never passive. It takes commitment and effort to reach your goals. Therapy and hypnotherapy are not 'done to you' - on the contrary, they both require active participation on your part.  It may surprise you to learn that responding to hypnosis also requires active participation. Hypnotic responding is a skill, and one that you can enhance with imagination and fine tune through practice (see Hypnosis: Myths & Misconceptions for more ). 


Goal-focused because without clear, achievable goals therapy can drift and become aimless. Goal-setting provides direction, heightens motivation and enables us to track our progress. It can also help you to explore your situation at a deeper level. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is a brief therapy - most goals can be achieved within 4-8 sessions, and rarely go beyond 12. Progress will be reviewed in every session but I'll also revisit our action plan every four sessions to ensure we’re on track and to clarify next steps.

  • I will always respect your privacy and confidentiality
  • I will never push you to discuss anything you’re not ready for – disclosure should always be at your own discretion
  • I will only offer therapies for which there is sound theory and strong, evidence-based support 
  • I will support you in clarifying and achieving your goals in as short a timeframe as possible – my aim is for you to quickly move towards feeling confident and self-sufficient
  • If I feel you would be better served by a different specialist or form of therapy, I will advise you and assist, where I can, in referring you on.
